Title: Incognito browing- Not that incognito ...
Post by: ItalianMafiaBrussels on September 25, 2013, 05:14 pm
The incognito modus should definitely also remove the username i think, or maybe even better, replace it by a a random non-existing bogus username, somethig like 'User434641' otherwise i think it's really flawed, the incognito mode ;-)

Some SR vendors like me are working with in a room with several packers who better are not aware of SR work, so the incognito mode should delete the username too.. The less people that know, the better ...

Thanks DPR.

I agree. I brought this up before, but nothing was done about it.

So are we talking Sub-Vendor Accounts currently Processing Orders for Packaging and you want as little information as possible to be present in the unlikely event of a Raid? In that case it seems better to design a new Type of Mode alternatively just improve the Order System so the orders can be  processed outside of Silk Road through a Feed or API. The idea to have a new Mode could also include remove all front page listings and replace it with a "Vendor/Sub-Vendor Control Panel" instead with easy access to all functions from one single page. In fact thinking about it a Mode like this should be implemented anyway as I don't necessarily want to have the front page listings when using the Account as a Vendor, a Control Panel would be of much more use for me and ideally the Control Panel itself could be customized per Vendor/Sub-Vendor Account.

I don't fully understand what you are trying to say, but no i don't mean in the case of sub-accounts for packaging.

I just mean that there could be packers walking around the room while the vendor is managing SR, and if he passes by and sees the username on the screen then he can research it himself and will know immediately in which name they are working.

I think it's really silly that the incognito mode still display a user name, that takes away everything that is incognito about it, away.

Due to the answer you gave me in the question I sent to you in a private message that would actually definitely be a solution how I described it. Essentially whatever Account is being used by the Packer could be Setup with a Special Type of Mode for a Sub-Vendor Account which is customized by the Vendor ( you in this case ). Now it's not likely Silk Road will implement anything fancy on this end but conceptually beyond a customized Control Panel one could for example add a function of modifying the Product Titles, ie. say you get an order of "10 grams MDMA" or "3 gram cocaine", for the Sub-Vendor Account which has been customized it might look like "10 Bananas" and "3 Elephants", and there would be small prepackaged products available for the Packers with the labels "Bananas" and "Elephants" on them which they would not know what's inside of them.

Now if we're talking realistically what Silk Road might implement your idea makes sense on the surface but if the purpose is to make sure the Packager is not able to figure out the real Vendor Name something more Advanced must be implemented as technically the Packager in question could just remove Incognito Mode and see the Vendor Name anyway. I agree it should be fixed somehow though as no matter how bad any possible Solution is it's still better than nothing which is the case now.

I like your idea about being able to customize titles etc, but it seems something not really practical to do, and maybe too much asked for. If you want to take it that far you would want a different site link, different site name, site interface etc, but that is too complicated and asked too much for, really.

I meant something more simple. Nothing to do with sub-accounts. Just on the MAIN account i want the username to be removed, so that by-passing packers do not see my username while *I am browsing SR*, not them. You seem to keep thinking i have packers accesing my SR account. So it's as simple as that. My packers dont need access SR, i don't make use of the sub accounts thing.

I think if you start giving permission to your workers to work with a sub account, by that stage you can just as well trust them with your titles, even username. I mean if they pack all these orders they can easily log into SR themselves and figure out which vendor they are working for...

...

To sum up: I don't agree with all that complicated stuff. Just simple. On the current incognito mode, on the main account, DELETE the username, that's all !

I really like this suggestion.  I've been thinking the same thing since I became a vender. Most of our user names are quite telling.  The less people can learn about our account the better.
